Itinerary

  • Day 1: Overnight flight

Board your overnight flight to Denmark. Godnat, and see you tomorrow.

  • Day 2: Arrive in Copenhagen + Welcome Dinner

Welcome to Copenhagen! Denmark is Scandinavia’s smallest country, which is fitting since it’s also the coziest. The Danes even have a word to describe a psychological state of togetherness: hygge, pronounced “hoo-gah.”

    Today's highlights:

    • Meet an EF representative and fellow travelers as they arrive at the airport.
    • Transfer to your hotel to check in and check out your room.
    • Enjoy a Welcome Dinner with fellow travelers at an authentic local spot.
  • Day 3: Sightseeing tour of Copenhagen

Explore the happiest place on Earth (no, not Disney World). In the morning, hit up the National Museum and Nyhavn, the historical and energetic waterfront district.

    Today's highlights:

    • Join a local guide for a walking tour of Copenhagen.
    • See some big crowns, big jewels, and tiny people in paintings at Christiansborg Palace.

    Free time suggestions

Pastries: Wienerbrød, or “Vienna bread” is the term for all sweet, flaky Danish confections and are a must-eat. Hit the cafes for frøsnapper, hindbærsnitte, spandauer, and more.

Botanical Garden: The lush oasis that is Copenhagen’s botanical gardens has over 13,000 plant species set in 19th-century greenhouses. It’s free, and there’s beer. Skål to that.

  • Day 4: Free day in Copenhagen + optional Danish food tour

The agenda today is totally your call. More pastries? Do you. Sightseeing? Love it. In the afternoon, hop on an optional Danish food tour and chow down like local.

    Free time suggestions

Tivoli Gardens: Gorgeous gardens AND a rollercoaster?! This park has attracted and inspired visitors since the 19th century, including Walt Disney. Go at night for the twinkle lights.

Designmuseum Danmark: You may have heard, but Danish design is kind of a big deal. The Rococo-style building houses arts, crafts, industrial design, fashion, and more from Scandinavia and around the world.

    Danish Food Tour (extra cost)

Inhale all the Danish tasties while a local guide fills you in on the history.

This excursion is pre-book only; if your trip is less than three days away, please call 800-766-2645 to purchase.

  • Day 5: Free day in Copenhagen

It’s your last day in Copenhagen, so make the most of it! Check out more museums, find the perfect café, and maybe even wander into the autonomous anarchist district known as Christiania.

    Free time suggestions

Freetown Christiania: Anti-establishment free spirits (read: hippies) started this neighborhood in the 70s. For the last 40 years, they’ve been governing themselves, and doing pretty much whatever they want.
Church of Our Savior: For the best views of Copenhagen, head to Church of Our Savior. But you’re going to have to work for it—there are 400 steps between you and the top of the tower.

  • Day 6: Travel to Stockholm

Hop a train to another Scandinavian jewel: Sweden, known for friendly people, meatballs, and fika, a daily coffee break Swedes use to slow things down and enjoy the moment.

    Today's highlights:

    • Tour Stockholm, the Venice of the North, with a local guide.
    • Stop at the Vasa Museum, home to the recovered wreckage of Vasa, a Swedish warship that sunk 20 minutes into its first, and last, voyage.
    • Visit Stockholm City Hall and walk down the same stairs that Nobel Prize winners walk down every year.
    • Walk through Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s charming and iconic old town.
    • Enjoy an included dinner with your fellow travelers.
  • Day 7: Free day in Stockholm + optional urban kayaking excursion

You’re free to get to know Stockholm on a more personal level. Relax at a café, head back to the old town, or try something completely different (ride the metro; many of the stations double as art galleries).

    Free time suggestions

Skansen: Explore 150 houses and exhibits in an open-air museum, some of which are inhabited by staff in traditional clothing. There’s also an open-air zoo with Nordic fauna like brown bears and reindeer.
ABBA Museum: If you’re a fan of the 1970’s Swedish pop group, ABBA (or the early-aughts musical Mamma Mia!) then you can’t miss the interactive museum dedicated to their legacy.

Stockholm Guided Kayaking Tour (extra cost)

Spend a few hours kayaking between Stockholm’s 14 distinct islands with a local Swede.

The ability to swim is a requirement for this excursion.

Note: This excursion is seasonal and only runs from May through September. Availability is subject to your tour’s departure date. This excursion is pre-book only; if your trip is less than one day away, please call 800-766-2645 to purchase.

  • Day 8: Travel to Bergen

Say adjö to Sweden—today you're flying to Norway, the land of the midnight sun, fjords, and highly caffeinated locals. After you land, you have the whole day free to explore.

    Free time suggestions

Compose Yourself: Toldhaugen is the former home of Edvard Grieg, a rockstar of Romantic-era composers. Visit the house and explore the museum dedicated to his legacy.
Hot Buns: Follow your nose to any one of Bergen’s bakeries for a traditional Norwegian pastry: the cinnamon roll (or skillingsboller). Baker Brun has been baking these beautiful buns since 1893.

  • Day 9: Tour of Bergen + optional Ulriken cable car ride

See some of the top Bergen sights, like the city’s old town that looks like somewhere Thor would hang out. But first, coffee. Scandinavians drink a lot of it—nearly 22 pounds per person each year in Norway, second only to Finland.

    Today's highlights:

    • Join a local guide for a bus and walking tour of Bergen.
    • Walk through Bryggen, the oldest part of the city where 62 traditional wooden houses give you a glimpse into the city’s past.
    • Smell your way through the fish and flower markets.

    Ulriken Cable Car (extra cost)

Ride a cable car up Mount Ulriken and take in the stunning views of Bergen and the fjords.

Why wait? Save money by booking this optional excursion before your trip departs.

  • Day 10: Fjord cruise + Farewell Dinner

Today you’ll experience what makes Norway one of the most beautiful countries in the world: the fjords. Formed millions of years ago by glacier movement, Norway’s fjords attract visitors from all over the world.

    Today's highlights:

    • Cruise through jaw-dropping scenery from Bergen to Mostraumen, where the famous fjords make up 16,400 miles of Norway’s 18,000-mile coastline.
    • Share some laughs (and maybe shed a few tears) at an included Farewell Dinner with your group.
  • Day 11: Fly home

    Hadet bra, venner!
Translation: Goodbye, friends! Your next destination awaits—home. But this isn’t goodbye. It’s “See you later.” The only question is, where?

This was my first EF trip and it was amazing. I made some amazing friends who I'm already planning other trips with. Everything EF had planned for the trip was great. You got a little bit of everything with sightseeing/history, fun activities, and good food.

  • Europe's hidden gem

      Whitney, traveled Jun. 2024

This was such a great trip, truly everything I dreamed of and more. Scandinavia isn't usually people's first choice for a trip to Europe, but it honestly should be. The weather was perfectly pleasant, the architecture is so dang cool, and the people are very nice.

Trip was great overall. Alex was a fun and considerate tour guide and I especially liked that there were only a few early stops on this trip. The only problem is there's not enough time to do all the fabulous things in all 3 countries.
